Antwerp has 70 municipalities. Among these are Boom, Borsbeek, Hove, Lint, Morsel, Schelle, Stabroek, Zoersel, Duffel, Puurs, Mol, Ravels, Hernthout and Westerlo just to name a few.

 

It primarily has three districts, Antwerp, Mechelen and Turnhout. Antwerp dates back to the Gallo-Roman period, specifically that of the alluvial mound.

 

Antwerp became part of the Holy Roman Empire in the 10th century.

 

Florentijn Lodovico Guicciardini wrote about Antwerp. The city has the works of Quinten Metsys, Bruegel and Plantign.  Also renowned in the area are Dodoens, Lipsius, Ortelius and Meractor.

 

Antwerp is also famous for Rubens, Van Dyck and Verbrugghen.
